I saw some interesting articles this morning, one that said that Ash Wednesday isn’t just for Roman Catholics anymore! Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, which ends on Easter Sunday (April 8th this year.) We may not be wearing ashes on our foreheads, but we should be searching our hearts and preparing for Easter!

As we journey towards Easter in our Worship, I have decided this year to do a special series of messages entitled, “Conscience at the Cross.” These next 5 Sundays we will have 5 scriptural case studies, each one dealing with a man’s conscience in response to the purity of Christ, and in the shadow of the cross. We’ll ask the question, “How does each one respond to the searchlight placed on his conscience?” The 5 we will be studying from Luke’s gospel are Judas, Peter, Pilate, Barabbas, and the Dying Thief.

Please be reading and meditating on the last chapters of Luke, Chapters 22-24. This Sunday’s message is from Luke 22:1-5, “Judas – I Betrayed Him!”

May God use these messages from His Word to search our hearts and consciences during these special days of preparation for our Palm Sunday and Easter Celebrations!

CORPORATE CONFESSION OF SIN AND ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Father, we come to Thee to acknowledge and confess that we have sinned in thought and word and deed; we have not loved Thee with all our heart and soul, with all our mind and strength; we have not even loved our neighbor as ourselves. Deepen within us our sorrow for the wrong we have done, or for the good we have left undone.

Special Service Time & Location for January 22

On Sunday January 22 our congregation will worship at Zion Lutheran Church on US 29 near the Newnan Country Club.
10 am: We will begin with a brunch with members of their congregation.
11 am: We will hold our worship service at their facility.

On Sunday, January 22nd we will only hold a morning service. We will not be meeting at 5 or 6pm that evening.

Friends of Refugees

Our women’s Bible study group had the privilege of serving at Friends of Refugees “Mommy & Me” Christmas party.

Friends of Refugees is an organization striving to “care for refugees through relationships and opportunities that provide for their well-being, education and employment as they become contributing members of society.” Their Mommy and Me Family Literacy Program offers English classes especially designed for refugee mothers with small children (ages 0-4).

Every year, thousands of refugees come to the United States seeking a better life. In the early 1990′s, the process of resettling refugees began in the community of Clarkston, GA, a small town located within metro Atlanta. Since this process began, approximately 60,000 refugees have been resettled in this area. With over 150 different ethnic groups represented within and around the city, Clarkston has been named “the most diverse square mile in America” by the New York Times.

Our group was delighted to plan and facilitate 2 crafts for the children. We helped them trace and cut their handprints to make reindeer antler hats and to assemble little candy-holding Christmas mice. We also led a group in singing Christmas carols.
